Reunions

Surrendering to Motherhood

I remember being somewhat of a misfit between ninth and 12th grades, in a John Hughes’ “The Breakfast Club” sort of way.

PlanetClaire reports on rain and rivers.

Got to the newsroom this morning and pretty much went right back out the door to do a weather story on rain and rivers. I also got the chance to do my first video reporting. It was fun except for the part when I said "chocolate covered rivers" instead of "chocolate colored rivers." Sheesh! Good catch JJ.

My name is Victory.

I may be a white girl from the ‘burbs but I love, love, LOVE, black gospel music. I’m talking about the toe tapping, hand clapping, tambourine slapping, PRAISE LORD, JESUS and HALLELUJAH tunes that the Catholic Church is definitely not known for.

I recently found WJHM 102 Gospel Jamz on iTunes. This is my new favorite radio station. They have a limited rotation but their songs ROCK! I can’t get enough of the harmonies, the enthusiasm, and the horns!

Here's a few of my new favorites:
“My Name is Victory,” by Jonathan Nelson

“I’ve got evidence,”
“I’ve got confidence,”
“I’m a conquerer,”
“I know that I’ll win,”
“I know who I am,”
“God wrote it in his plan,”
“For me”
“Ooh, oh oh ohooo my name is VICTORY!”
“Ooh, oh oh ohooo my name is VICTORY!”
“Raise it up and say Woahhhhhh! Raise you hands up !!!”
“I am!!!”
“VICTORY !!!”

Here’s another doozy:

“In the Sanctuary,” by Kurt Carr

“Yes Lord,”
“YES!!”
“Yes Lord,”
“YES!! We will praise you for the rest of our days…”

The end “In the Sanctuary,” is the best. Just when you think it’s over WHAM, they crank it up again. That is some gospel POWER !!

“Gods got a way” by Rev Timothy White is another knee bouncer. Think tambourine, washboard and upright piano…

“Gods got a way,”
“That you can’t go over,”
“That you can’t go under.”
“That you can’t go round it,”
“You must come in through the door.”

Watch this video and I dare you not to stomp your feat and raise your hands up to the LORD !!!

Get ready to get your heart pumping with Dorinda Clark Cole’s “Everything that the devil stole, God’s givin’ back to me.”

“He has my Joy,”
“He has my Peace,”
“He has my Faith,”
“He has my everyTHIIIIINNNNGGG !!!”

“I want it ALLLLLLL baaaaaccckkkkk!”
“Come on, make the devil mad!” shouts Cole.

And get ready to PRAISE with J Moss:

“There's a praise on the inside that can't keep to myself
There's a holler stirrin' up
From the depths of my soul
So excuse me if I seem a little giddy or maybe even strange
But praise is the way I say thanks”

“Let it bring forth a sound from your voice filled with gladness
All ye lands make a joyful noise
And let the psalms of David live forever and ever
Praise is the way I say thanks.”

Surrendering to Motherhood

A Uniform Story

Recently, the youngest Huffman made an announcement. Asserting her 8-year-old self, she declared she no longer wanted to wear the uniform jumper for her elementary school. Instead she’d wear just the uniform skirt.
