Back to School
Unlike certain members of my family, I think my kids are ready to go back to school. After nine weeks of Camp Huffman, the girls are beginning to turn on one another like a pack of adolescent hyenas. You know it’s time to go back when major skirmishes erupt over one sister supposedly humming, breathing too loud or simply looking the other one’s way.

The Gothic Rose.
If you’re looking to visit a cross between a haunted house and a macabre antique store, you’ve gotta check out the Gothic Rose. Located in Placerville, Ca., this little shop o’ horrors is just what every goth witch called for.
Proprietress Crystal used to have a Gothic Rose boutique in Petaluma, but two years ago consolidated to tourist friendly Main Street in gold country’s Placerville. Around Halloween the store takes on an even greater ghostly air.
The Gothic Rose is filled with cemetery chic, black on black, vintage medical and mortuary supplies, dark romantic Victorian keepsakes, memento mori, funereal antiques and other wicked wares. Crystal’s collection puts the tacky “Halloween Warehouse” type temporary holiday stores to shame.
For a haunting good time with a twist of terror, check out the Gothic Rose Antiques & Curiosities.

The Reunion.
Here’s what I learned from my 25th high school reunion: We ladies have a genetic advantage over the guys.
Sorry men, but it’s the truth — we age better. You’ve lost hair and turned into middle-aged dads. We are hot mommas who finally figured out how to dress ourselves, get highlights and use moisturizer.

A sit down craft project
Two dollhouse chairs become birthday gifts for my two August birthday
girlfriends. Materials used include ribbon, 7 Gypsies rub on letters,
buttons, gems and cake decorating plastic butterflies. The chair seats
are covered with scraps of vintage letters mailed from one friend to
another.

All quiet...
It sure is quiet around here with two-thirds of the household children visiting Grandpa and Grandma out of town.
Ahhhh....this must be what it's like to have only one child. There's no fighting. There's no stomping up and down the stairs. I have enjoyed nice quiet talks with the remaining daughter with no interruptions. There's no one clamoring to use the computer or ask to make a play date. The kitchen stays nice and clean with only a few dishes to wash at a time. We may even go out to dinner with just one kid tonight.
Sigh.
I think I miss them.

Latisse Update Week #14
I am now officially addicted to Latisse. Take it from a woman who once suffered from skimpy little lashes -- I now have va-va-voom flutter a la Jessica Rabbit. All thanks to my nightly eyelash painting.
You may have seen Brooke Shields hawking Latisse on TV or in magazines. "What does SHE need it for," you might ask. Don't let Brooke intimidate you, just try it -- you will like it.
PlanetClaire readers may recall I'm actually using a Latisse generic. It's called Lumigan and costs only half the price. It's ordered online from a Canadian pharmacy and comes from Allergan India. Well, it could come from Mars for all I care. This stuff is like crack for eyelashes. I gotta have it.
